The most significant and consistent characteristic of 54/1 is the cape style. Near rider’s cape is towel-like with lines away from the neck pointed upward into a flat, straight edge.
Crawford suggests a small issue, with fewer than 10 and 12 obverse and reverse dies, but many more dies have been observed. Furthermore, each example to emerge on the market seems to have different dies from others seen before. (nothing scientific here, just an observation).
