Obverse: Radiate bust left in consular robe, holding eagle-tipped sceptre (scipio),
legend: DEO ET DOMINO PROBO INVICTO AVG ;
Reverse: Emperor galloping right, spearing enemy whose shield lies beneath horse (VIR-1 variant in the Ph. Gysen classification), legend: VIRTVS PROBI AVG ;
In exergue KAΓ Silver, diameter 22-24 mm, weight 3,73 g, axis 6 h.
Note: Very rare and highly desirable obverse legend DEO ET DOMINO (Deus = "God"; Dominus = "Lord"). Only three Roman emperors: Aurelian, Probus and Carus used such a pompous and pretentious title in their coinage during their lives. While it was not uncommon for the Roman Senate to deify emperors after their death and for successors to issue posthumuos coins celebrating deified, deceased emperors as "diivi" ("godly"), it was highly unusual and exceptional to title an incumbent emperor as "God". The Deo et Domino title was first used by Aurelian. A must have in every serious Roman Empire coin collection.
