A handsome circulated example of this popular type, with original grey toning.
This coin is of the first type struck in 1916 and early 1917. (The 1916 is one of the more popular 20th century American rarities.) Type 1 coins feature a bare-breasted Liberty. Later in 1917, on the subsequent Type 2 issues, she acquired a shirt of chain mail and three stars were added beneath the eagle.
