Kings of Thrace, Lysimachos AR Tetradrachm (30mm, 16.87g). Smyrna, circa 287-281 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to right, ΛΥΣΙΜΑΞΟΥ crowned by Nike to left, Φ to inner left, head of Tyche (facing left) to outer left. Thompson 237v; Müller 408v.
Apparently, an unpublished and unique example, obverse die matched with other specimens, but displaying a unique reverse with a previously unrecorded symbol, as the head facing outer left does not display a turreted crown, but rather a shortened stephanos(?) and scepter(?). All other examples from Smyrna have the same reverse emission, making this one an even more intriguing find. Previously graded and encapsulated by NGC: Ch VF, Fine Style. # 3762469-018.
It is my second favorite coin, and I am truly honored to own it.
