Unknown Pomeranian local mint.

OBVERSE: primitive imitation of Anglo-Saxon short cross denarius. Between each arm of cross three points.

NOTE: Coins with a similar motif were found in the famous Lupawa coin hoard in Pomerania. They were produced in numerous local mints from the mid-11th to the early 12th century. Numerous imitations and hybrids of German, Anglo-Saxon and Danish coins were intended to provide for the needs of the local market for money. Therefore, no care was taken to make coins with original images and intelligible inscriptions.

NOTE: Although the style and motif of the cross is similar to the coins from this eponymous hoard in Łupawa, there are no one-sided exemplars minted with the same punch as my coin. The one-sided minting of coins, on the other hand, is typical for the Polish lands. Characteristic notches (punches) visible on the coin prove that it was used in the Baltic region.
