Roman Province - Syria

"The Jewish War" The forces of the Syrian province were directly involved in the Jewish-Roman War from 66 to 70 CE. Vespasian, accompanied by the legions X Fretensis and V Macedonica, landed at Ptolemais in April 67 CE. Later, his son Titus joined him, arriving from Alexandria with the XV Apollinaris legion. Together, they commanded over 60,000 soldiers.

To fund their legions, the Romans minted approximately 6,500,000 silver tetradrachms in the Roman province of Syria. This amount was sufficient to pay the four legions participating in the suppression of the Jewish revolt. Numerous archaeological findings in Judea confirm that Syrian tetradrachms were used to finance the legions.
