Lucius Septimius Severus Pertinax

"Legio XIV Gemina" It was founded by Julius Caesar in 57 BCE. The epithet Gemina (twin) was granted after it merged with another legion following the Battle of Actium. The title Martia Victrix was earned for its service in the Pannonian War in 9 CE and its role in the defeat of Boudica in 61 CE. The legion's symbol was the Capricorn.

In 193 CE, after the death of Pertinax, the commander of the XIV Legion, Septimius Severus, was proclaimed emperor by the Pannonian legions, primarily by his own troops. Legio XIV Gemina supported its commander during his march on Rome against Didius Julianus (193), contributed to the defeat of the usurper Pescennius Niger (194), and participated in the Parthian campaign, culminating in the sack of the imperial capital Ctesiphon (198).
