Publius Septimius Geta

"Fratres – Brothers" Geta was born while his father was serving as governor of the province under Emperor Commodus. At the time of his father's death in 211 CE, Geta was 22 years old and, like his older brother (Caracalla), held all the titles due to an emperor. In his will, Septimius Severus granted equal power to both brothers without dividing their responsibilities or territories within the empire. This fact alone made cooperation between them difficult. However, a deeper cause of the conflict that would erupt between the brothers was the deep-seated hatred they harbored for each other since early childhood. Their forced agreement at their father's graveside, urged by their mother, Julia Domna, did not resolve their animosity.
