coins ancient to romans imperial and republican trajan denarius with mars

Luca Romano
The LVCA ROMANO Collection

Among the war propaganda from the beginning of Trajan's Parthian War, a depiction of Mars, the god of war, must be found. Prof. Woytek dates this issue Spring 113 - Summer 114 AD. Very nice example with an old dark patina, and really decent details.

Obverse: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P; Bust of Trajan, laureate, draped, right;

Reverse: S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI; Mars, helmeted, naked, except for cloak round waist, advancing right, holding transverse spear in right hand and trophy over left shoulder, in left.
