Often found with adjustment marks which do not detract from the value.

Although the legends and denominations are in French, these coins are actually British. Because of the agreement to which Mauritius was ceded to Britain, the coinage and language had to remain French. The 25 and 50 sous denominations allowed for them to easily translate into British monetary system and the dollar, which was the main circulating currency alongside the rupee (2 rupees to 1 dollar).
