Roman Empire, Claudius II (268-270), Antoninianus, Cyzicus mint, 3rd emission, 2nd officina.
Obverse: IMP C M AVR CLAVDIVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust left, seen from behind, •• below;
Reverse: VICTORI-A-E GOTHIC, trophy of arms, helmet left, on each side, a bound and seated captive, SPQR in exergue;
Notes: The VICTORIAE GOTHIC reverse type is without a doubt the most iconic coin struck by Claudius II, and the Cyzicus mint paired it with a variety of bust types, some extremely hard to find, allowing a would-be collector to assemble a very interesting set. The D2l is amongst the rarest of these busts, as mine is one of only two known examples, both from the same obverse die.
