Roman Empire, Claudius II (268-270), Antoninianus, Mediolanum mint, 3rd emission, 2nd officina.
Obverse: IMP CLAVDIVS P F AVG, radiate head right, with drapery to front and rear;
Reverse: FORTVN-AE RED, Fortuna standing left, holding rudder in right hand and cornucopia in left hand, S in exergue;
Notes: The A3 bust type, showing only the head with slight drapery, was used by Claudius II in almost all of his mints, but these coins are all very hard to find on the market. Mine appears to be the fifth known example of this particular variety and the only one in private hands, and, besides the high quality of the artistry itself, it also happens to come from the Mazzini collection.
