Salonina, wife of Gallienus (253-68 AD)

Potin Tetradrachm of Alexandria, Egypt. Year 12 = 264-265 AD.

Obverse: KOΡNHΛIA CAΛΩNEINA CEB, draped bust right

Reverse: Eirene standing left holding olive branch and sceptre, palm before, LIB behind.

This piece was minted for Roman Egypt between 264 and 265 AD, in the name of Salonina, who was the wife of Gallienus, who ruled from 253-268 AD. She was murdered along with her husband in 268 AD. The obverse of this type depicts the draped bust of Salnonina right, wearing stephane, with Greek legends for KORNILIA.SALONEINA.SEB. The reverse features Eirene (Pax) standing left, holding olive branch and sceptre, palm at left, regnal date LIB at right. (year 12)
