Titus Maecilius Croto:
As Crawford notes, CROT cannot stand for the obvious city of Croton, since it was controlled by Hannibal at the time. He suggests the name Croto, without investigating further. There was precisely a certain Titus Maecilius Croto active during the Second Punic War. In 215 BC, he was tasked by the praetor Appius Claudius Pulcher to bring the survivors of Cannae to Sicily (Livy, xxiii. 31). Nothing else is known about him, but he is very likely our moneyer.
This type is rare and almost always very worn.
