Dark patina with some cleaning scratches. Well-centered strike. This type was minted shortly after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC by Nikokreon, who was the ruler of Salamis and who had submitted to Alexander during his conquest of Persia. After Alexander’s death, Nikokreon continued to rule under Philip III. Later, in the wars of the Diadochi, Nikokreon allied himself with Ptolemy against Antigonus, and for his services was given charge of the whole island of Cyprus.
