AGNEL D'OR,   Tournai mint   c. 1417  (L)

A question mark exists as to whether it is actually for Charles VI or Charles VII. The line beneath the feet of the lamb has generally been attributable to Charles VII.

But there are some schools of thought that as it is mint marked for TOURNAI (16th letter), 1st. emission, it more likely attributable to Charles VI and that the line beneath the feet of the lamb is an individual choice of that particular mint - see CATALOGUES DES MONNAIES ROYALES FRANCAISES vol. 1, by Jean-Yves KIND,  ref. 383.

There are a number of factors that blur the lines about this coin. including expert opinions on its gold content (although not actually tested).

The jury currently remains out on the subject. So, for the time being, I choose to follow the smart money and put it in my collection as being Charles VI, based on some very informed opinions from collectors and experts, but pending future updates.

So, for the moment the coin is dated for 1417 with the gold content of 958%, as for CHARLES VI.

Always happy to receive constructive opinions on the matter, some of which have been from knowledgeable collectors with Colleconline, for which I am truely appreciative of .
