P. NERVA (P.Licinius Nerva) Denar

Rome 112 o. 113 BC

Avers: Roma bust with helmet, shouldered lance and shield to the left (decorated with a horseman to the left), above crescent moon, value sign. Behind: ROMA

Revers: Election scene with a civil servant (rogator) giving a ballot stone to a citizen while another citizen throws his ballot stone into a ballot box. Above P NERVA

The moneyer is probably P. Licinius Nerva, Praetor 104 B.C. The election scene shows the execution of the secret elections with voting boards. A concrete reason is probably the Lex agraria of 111 with which soil disputes should be settled and which go back to the Lex Liciniae Sextiae of 368 B.C.
