Phelps’ untitled work is an example of using welded metal plates to create a sculpture with significant

volume but not significant mass: the work is hollow. Phelps doesn’t offer viewers a title as means of

connecting with the sculpture. Instead, he allows the viewers’ imagination to complete the work,

informing it with their own frames of reference.
