On February 17, 2003, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad officiated the launch of three commemorative coins in conjunction with the XIII Non-Aligned Movement Summit (NAM). The NAM XIII Conference was held from 20 - 25 February 2003 at Putra World Trade Center, Kuala Lumpur. The three types of coins (Nordic Gold RM1, RM10 Silver Proof and RM100 Gold Proof) are legal tender.

The design for these two types of commemorative coins is the same, on the front is the official symbol of the NAM XIII Summit. The word "XIII CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF STATE OR GOVERNMENT OF THE NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT" is displayed around the logo.
