Représentation de Pyrame et Thisbé près de la tombe de Nimus à l’ombre du mûrier, histoire tirée de la mythologie grecque.
Thisbé arrive la première, mais la vue d'une lionne à la gueule ensanglantée la fait fuir; son voile lui échappe et il est déchiré par la lionne qui le souille de sang. Lorsque Pyrame arrive, il découvre le voile et les empreintes du fauve, croyant que Thisbé en a été victime, il se suicide, son sang éclaboussant les mûres blanches. Thisbé, revenant près du mûrier, découvre le corps de son amant et préfère se suicider à sa suite.
C'est de là que viendrait la couleur rouge des mûres d'après Ovide. De fait, dans la tradition latine, le terme de Pyramea arbor (« arbre de Pyrame ») était parfois utilisé pour désigner le mûrier. Depuis, la mûre symbolise les différentes phases de l'amour jusqu'à la passion dévastatrice puisque le fruit passe du blanc au rouge, puis au noir, lors des phases du mûrissement.

Reverse:
Representation of Pyramus and Thisbe near the tomb of Nimus in the shade of the mulberry tree, a story taken from Greek mythology.
Thisbe arrives first, but the sight of a lioness with a bloody mouth scares her away; his veil escapes him and he is torn by the lioness who stains him with blood. When Pyramus arrives, he discovers the veil and the footprints of the beast, believing that Thisbe has been a victim, he commits suicide, his blood spattering the white mulberries. Thisbe, returning near the mulberry tree, discovers the body of her lover and prefers to commit suicide after him.
This is where the red color of blackberries comes from, according to Ovid. In fact, in the Latin tradition, the term Pyramea arbor (“Pyrame tree”) was sometimes used to designate the mulberry tree. Since then, the blackberry has symbolized the different phases of love until devastating passion since the fruit turns from white to red, then to black, during the phases of ripening.
