Spolia opima a suit of armor captured by a Roman general himself in a duel during the time of the Roman Republic.
In Roman history, the armor of an enemy leader was captured by a Roman general only 3 times, first by Romulus against Acron, and last by Marcus Claudius Marcellus (an ancestor of the moneyer) against Viridomarus, king of the gallic Gaesatae tribe in 222 B.C.
