This is a WW1 gas mask belonging to

Leon Herbert Linton who was born July tenth 1894 to James & Clara Linton in the very small town of Wolcott, Lamoille County, Vermont, USA. When World War One rolled around Leon was 20 but he was most likely drafted or signed up in 1917 when the US entered the war and was placed in the 103rd infantry regiment, Signal Platoon 1st section of the 26th division. The regiment served on the western front, champagne Marne, Asine Marne, battle of saint Mihiel, and finally the Meuse Argonne offensive. He served as a Medic his gas mask I own was issued September 2nd 1918 so most likely his previous one broke or was lost. After the war all I know is he went on to marry his girlfriend Florence Pearsons Linton who was born in 1900, they had four children three of which are still alive today! Leon died at the age of 73 in 1967. And his wife out lived him by seven years dying at the age of 70. They are buried together at Croydon, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, USA
