Marcus Aurelius Antoninus
"Caesar" He was born in Hadrumetum, in the province of Africa Proconsularis (modern Sousse, Tunisia). In accordance with his father Ceionius' wishes, he was named Albinus due to the remarkable whiteness of his skin. From a young age, he displayed a strong desire to participate in military campaigns. During the reign of Commodus, he served as governor of Dacia and was a consul.
Later, the emperor appointed him governor of Gallia Belgica, where he successfully defeated the Germans beyond the Rhine. Subsequently, he was made governor of Britain. After a triumphant entry into Rome, Septimius Severus deified Pertinax and then set out for the East, as Pescennius Niger's army had occupied Byzantium. It was at this time that Clodius Albinus received the title of Caesar, or junior co-ruler, from Severus, who also adopted him as his son.
