Among the war propaganda from the period around the Dacian campaigns, Mars, the god of war, must be found. Very nice example with an old dark patina, and really decent details. As always I was looking for an aegis with Gorgon’s head, large flan, and some toning. It definitely fits into the collection. Minted in Rome 106-107 AD (vide Woytek).
Obverse: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P, Bust of Trajan, laureate, right with aegis;
Reverse: S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI, Mars, helmeted, in military dress, standing front, head right, holding vertical spear in right hand and resting left on shield.
