Obv: Diademed head of Venus, in front cupid with palm leaf
Reverse: Jug and lituus between two trophies, IMPER above, ITERV below
On this exeptional military issue Sulla strikes in the East as imperator without reference to senatorial authorization, an omnious foreshadowing of the imperatorial age of the 40s an 30s BC. Venus was the protective goddess of the dictator, who named himself Epaphroditos.
