Struck AD 255-256. Samosata mint

Light toning, some scattered deposits, superb strike, excellent detail on both obverse and reverse. A very unusual type among Roman Imperial coins, unique to the issues of Valerian and his son Gallienus (in addition to an extremely rare type struck for Claudius II Gothicus.) The reverse legend may be translated as “Vows of the World”.

Collection : Roman Imperial - the Military Anarchy
