Holy Roman Empire - House of Hapsburg - 1767

Archduchess Maria Theresa
Thaler - Wien (Vienna) mint. IC-SK. Original strike

Maria Theresa Thalers (MTT) is one of the world's most famous silver coins noted for its longevity and popularity even up to the 20th century as a trade currency particularly in the Levant (I.e Middle East and parts of North Africa). In particular the 1780 strikes (year of Maria Theresa's death) continued to be re-struck up to the 21st century as they were the preferred currency of trade particularly in the levant and as a bullion piece.

Whilst the 1780 re-strikes are extremely common he to continued mintage and trade up to the 21st century, the early designs particularly lifetime issues are significantly scarcer. Variations and age can be determined via differences in designs such as the banner and brooch (or in this sample, the lack thereof)
