History:
Victor-Amédée III, king of Sardinia (in Italian Vittorio Amedeo III di Sardegna), born June 26, 1726 at the royal palace in Turin, and died October 16, 1796 at the castle of Moncalieri, is a prince of the House of Savoy, king of Sardinia, sovereign of the Duchy of Savoy, of the Principality of Piedmont, and of the County of Nice. Son of King Charles-Emmanuel III and his second wife Polyxena of Hesse-Rheinfels-Rotembourg, Victor-Amédée reigned from 1773 until his death in 1796.
He is the father of the last three kings of Sardinia from the elder branch of the House of Savoy (Charles-Emmanuel IV, Victor-Emmanuel I and Charles-Félix); the Savoie-Carignans succeeded them in 1831 due to the extinction of the line in males.
