Ex Helios Numismatik, Auktion 7, 12-13 Dec. 2011, lot 1084, Price EUR 650 NACHPRÄGUNGEN GERMANISCHER STÄMME Solidus, 6. Jhdt., ungesicherte Münzstätte; im Namen des Anastasius I. (491 - 518). 4.36 g. Büste mit Lanze und Schild en face. Rs: Victoria mit Chrismonstab links. Fagerlie (1967), Taf. XXVII, 665 var. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. DN ANASTASIVS PP AVC // VICTORI – AVC CCE --- CONOB The As are unbarred pointing to a western provenance. The first S in Anastasius is lying on its side. The coin may be attributed to the Franks or the Burgundians. If an attribution to the Burgundians is correct, it may have been minted under the authority of King Sigismund (516-524) with the unusual S perhaps functioning as a monogram. The later solidi of King Sigismund that were minted in the name of Justin I, show an S at the end of the obverse legend. Also the reverse design of this coin and of the later solidi in the name of Justin I is very similar. If the attribution to Sigismund’s reign is correct, the coin may have been minted between 516 and 518.
