This is the anonymous variety of 68/1a with corn ear symbol, the symbol used for many Roman issues struck in Sicily. It is distinct in its rendering of the griffon tufts on the back of Roma’s helmet to a single “horn”. This abstraction of the early Roman denarius suggests a slightly later issue, somewhat after the origins.
RBW purchased this example from Alex Malloy in March 1973.
