Inventory #210819-03.
NGC certified F15, cert. #4431797-028.
A one-year type struck for the then-independent Hawaiian Kingdom. This issue had a modest mintage of only 250,000 pieces. Of the 1883 issues of Kalakaua I, only the Hawaii dollar (dala) coins are rarer. These were struck in the USA at San Francisco and designed by US mint engraver Charles E. Barber.
There is a faint old hairline on the portrait but apparently NGC did not consider this serious enough to note as a problem, and gave it a straight F15 grade. I personally do not find it especially distracting, and the coin is otherwise an attractive example for the grade.
