Roman Empire, Tacitus (275-276), Aurelianus, Serdica mint, 3rd emission, 3rd officina.
Obverse: IMP C M CL TACITVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from the front;
Reverse: VICTOR-IA PERPE-TVA AVG, Victory standing right, holding wreath in right hand and palm against left shoulder, facing Emperor in military dress standing left, right hand outstretched and holding long sceptre in left hand; * in field, KA(•)Γ(•) in exergue;
Notes: The VICTORIA PERPETVA AVG coinage of Tacitus is very rare and sought after; it was only struck at Serdica and it commemorates the victory obtained by the emperor against the Goths who had invaded Asia Minor. This reverse type is not listed in RIC V with this officina mark and this particular example, with the short obverse legend without INVICTVS, is currently unique and was once part of the Mazzini collection.
