Roman Empire, Claudius II (268-270), Antoninianus, Siscia mint, 2nd emission, ? officina.
Obverse: IMP CLAVDIVS AVG, radiate head right, with drapery to front and rear;
Reverse: PA-X AVG, Pax standing left, holding olive branch in right hand and long transverse sceptre in left hand;
Notes: The A3 bust type, showing only the head with slight drapery, was used by Claudius II in almost all of his mints, but these coins are all very hard to find on the market. Mine appears to be the fifth known example of this particular variety and the only one in private hands, and, despite the very poor flan, the portrait is excellent and still bears a strong resemblance to that of Gallienus, having been struck early in the reign of his successor.
