DACIA CAPTA translates to Dacia Captured and refers to the Roman province of Dacia, which was conquered by Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century AD. Trajan’s campaign against the Dacians, a people living in the area that is now modern-day Romania and Moldova, culminated in the annexation of their territory into the Roman Empire. Commemorative coins with the inscription „DACIA CAPTA” were issued to celebrate this military victory and the expansion of the Roman Empire. These coins often depicted symbols of victory, such as a trophy or a bound captive, along with the inscription to signify the conquest of Dacia by the Romans under Trajan’s rule. Here’s an example of the denarius minted in Rome during Trajan’s fifth consulate with this exact inscription.
