Collectible Coin - Maximilian Hell - Slovensko 2020 - 300th Anniversary
Maximilian Hell (1720 - 1792) - Catholic priest, member of the Society of Jesus, astronomer and mathematician. Through his scientific, pedagogical and publishing activities, he became a pioneer of modern astronomical science in the Habsburg monarchy. He began his scientific career in 1745 - became J. Franz's assistant at the Vienna Jesuit Observatory and started teaching astronomy at the Vienna University. In 1755 he was appointed Director of the Imperial Observatory in Vienna and held this position until his death in 1792. Besides his work at the Observatory and at the University, he also published many works, and co-founded observatories in Trnava, Cluj, Buda and Eger. Hell gained international reputation with the publication of his astronomical tables " Ephemerides astronomicae ad meridianum Vindobonemsem " (Ephemerides for the Meridian of Vienna), which he edited from 1757 and continued to be published until 1807. Hell was a member of several learned societies, including the British Royal Society, of which he was made fellow in 1790. (Information from coin leaflet inside the box.)

Maximilien Hell (1720 - 1792) - Prêtre catholique, membre de la Compagnie de Jésus, astronome et mathématicien. Par ses activités scientifiques, pédagogiques et d'édition, il est devenu un pionnier de la science astronomique moderne dans la monarchie des Habsbourg. Il a commencé sa carrière scientifique en 1745 - il est devenu l'assistant de J. Franz à l'Observatoire des Jésuites de Vienne et a commencé à enseigner l'astronomie à l'Université de Vienne. En 1755, il est nommé directeur de l'observatoire impérial de Vienne et occupe ce poste jusqu'à sa mort en 1792.
