Septimius Severus. AR denarius, Emesa, 194 CE; 18mm, 2.93g, 6h. BMCRE W340 var (SPES in rev.)., RIC 364 var (same)., RSC 58 var (PERTE in obv., SPES in rev.). Obv: IMP CAE L SEP SE–V PERT AVG [COS II]; head laureate right. Rx: BONA – STES [sic]; Spes advancing left, holding up flower with left hand and lifting skirt with right hand. Scratches on the obverse, otherwise near VF.
Extremely rare and possibly unique variant of the BONA SPES type for Septimius Severus with STES instead of SPES in the reverse legend.
