Decimus Brutis was one of the assassins of Caesar, but not to be confused with the more celebrated Marcus Junius Brutus. In spite of the fact that he was "regarded as a son" by Caesar, Decimus was one of the conspirators and is credited in waylaying Marc Antony who was trying to warn Caesar. Other accounts suggest he was in fact one of the several who attacked Caesar with their daggers.
The portrait on the obverse is generally regarded as Aulus Postumus Albinus, COS 99; however this is controversial as there were several Consuls named A. Postumus Albinus prior to 99. The Consul of 99 with this name seems most logical as the previous Consul with this name was in the year 151 BC, 70 years before Decimus's birth.
In Robert Harris' novel, Dictator, it is Decimus, not Marcus, who is the Brutus targeted during Caesar's assassination by Caesar's alleged accusatory words, "Even you?". The phrase, more often rendered as "Et tu", is immortalized in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar
