In Ryazan, the people were so used to coins with a Tamga countermark that they continued to apply the countermark even when the underlying coin was not a Golden Horde dang. Thus, they produced a coin with a central empty square and a Russian legend naming Grand Prince Ivan and then applied the princely Tamga.
