Rome, 47 BC

Obv. Head of Medusa with disheveled hair, coiled serpents at either side of face.

The moneyer was the brother of L. Munatius Plancus and was adopted by A. Plautius. The reverse goes back to a famous painting, the Victoria (Aurora) of Nicomachus, which was in the possession of the Gens Plautia and was later (end of 43 BC) donated to the Capitol by Munatius Plancus on the occasion of his triumph.
