RIC: 841 VAR. (UNLISTED WITH DEO ET DOMINO PROBO INVICTO AVG LEGEND)
COLLECTION NO. 1949

Provenance: ex collection dr Victor Wishnevsky = purchased from Franz Javorsek at a coin show in October 1997

Note: Very rare and highly desirable obverse legend DEO ET DOMINO (Deus = "God"; Dominus = "Lord"). Only three Roman emperors: Aurelian, Probus and Carus used such a pompous and pretentious title in their coinage during their lives. While it was not uncommon for the Roman Senate to deify emperors after their death and for successors to issue posthumuos coins celebrating deified, deceased emperors as "diivi" ("godly"), it was highly unusual and exceptional to title an incumbent emperor as "God". The Deo et Domino title was first used by Aurelian.

This variant is especially interesting because apart from the DEO ET DOMINO title (Deus = God; Dominus = Lord) it additionally has the INVICTO title (Invictvs = "invincible").
