coins ancient to romans provincial aurelian ric temp 3140var

OBVERSE: IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG
REVERSE: VIRTVS ILLVIRICI
BUST TYPE: B = Radiate, cuirassed bust right
FIELD / EXERGUE MARKS: -/-//Z
MINT:ANTIOCHIA
WEIGHT: 4,02 g
RIC TEMP: 3140 var. (unlisted for officina Z)
Coll. no. 425

NOTE: exceedingly rare and iconographically interesting "geographical" reverse type, celebrating Aurelian’s close ties with the Illyricum Province, where Aurelian most likely was born.

Out of the whole abundant coinage of Aurelian prof. Sylviane Estiot - author of RIC V.1 online - recorded only two Aurelian antoniniani with the Virtvs Illurici reverse, one example from officina "B" :

RIC temp n°3140 - RIC v1.0 Online: Roman Imperial Coinage

and one example from officina "Delta":

RIC temp n°3146 - RIC v1.0 Online: Roman Imperial Coinage

Both above recorded coins are however in much worse condition than mine.

My variant from officina "Z" is an unpubished UNICUM and is the finest of the 3 known examples of this exceedingly rare reverse type!

A coin of the highest numismatic interest and one of the absolute highlights of my specialized Aurelian collection
