NOTE: Very rare, desirable and iconographically interesting "geographival" reverse type struck only at the Milan mint during the brief 1st emmission; celebrating Aurelian’s close ties with the Pannoniae Province.
Very rare variant of the A bust type with raised sleeve!
Only one other example of this exact variant has appeared on the market in the last 20 years! (see auction Munzen & Medaillen Deutschland Auction 45 lot 938; unsold).
One of the finest known examples of this reverse type from Milan's 1st issue!
Aurelian coins from the first emmissions were struck on small flans and their quality was generally low. The quality of Aurelian coins slowly improved over time in the following years of Aurelian's rule with a major break-through in 274 AD after Aurelian's monetary reform, which introduced broader flans marked XXI or KA in exergue, guaranteeing 5% silver content in each coin.
Small flan crack; otherwise extremely fine with great details!
