Very rare, sought-after and pictorially attractive variant of this otherwise popular reverse in the coinage of Aurelian with ORIENS AVG legend, in which the God Sol (Aurelian's favorite God) is holding an vexillum This variant was struck only at the Rome mint during the brief 9th emmission.
Spectacular example, with wonderful details and lovely dark, even patina!
Vexillum was a flag-like object used as a military standard by units in the Roman army. A common vexillum displayed imagery of the Roman aquila on a reddish backdrop.
Bardzo rzadki, poszukiwany i atrakcyjny wariant popularnego w mennictwie Aureliana rewersu ORIENS AVG, w którym Sol (ulubione bóstwo Aureliana) trzyma vexillum. Wariant ten został wybity tylko w mennicy rzymskiej podczas krótkiej emisji nr 9.
Wyśmienity egzemplarz z świetnymi detalami, w pięknej, równej, ciemnej patynie.
Vexillum – znak bojowy rzymskich legionów. Był to sztandar wojskowy mający formę kwadratowego kawałka materiału z godłem, zawieszonego na poprzecznej belce zamocowanej do długiego drzewca. Znak noszony był przez vexillariusa („starszego niosącego sztandar”). Spotykany na monetach jako atrybut Fides Militum.
