"Motif from Nordfjord". Nicely illustrated card by Julius Holck (Ant. J. Karlsen Bergen). Used 1902. Quality 1-2.

Poor finances made it difficult for Holck to pursue the artistic profession. He therefore began training as a machinist, and in that connection he came abroad as a stoker on a steamship. Upon returning home, he was determined to become a painter. He made copies after i.a. Adolph Tidemand, Hans Gude, Anders Askevold. The copy of Frits Jensen's "Ingeborg ved Havet" attracted great attention. Later he painted landscapes, marine images and street scenes from Bergen. He decorated several cafes in Bergen, as well as painting post cards. For a time there was talk of letting Holck decorate the newly built Bergen Stock Exchange.
