Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus
"Temple of Vesta" What deterred Nero from traveling to Alexandria is described by Tacitus: "On this occasion, he went to the Capitol. After paying homage to the gods and entering the Temple of Vesta, he suddenly began to tremble all over—whether from the presence of the deity or because his memory of past crimes left him perpetually gripped by fear—and abandoned his intention, declaring that all his desires were of lesser importance than his love for the fatherland". Suetonius adds: "After visiting all the temples, he sat in the Temple of Vesta. When he attempted to stand, first the edge of his toga caught, and then such a dense fog arose that he could see nothing".
The Temple of Vesta was destroyed in the Great Fire of Rome in 64 CE and was subsequently rebuilt by Nero.
