Vibia Sabina

"Concordia Augusti – Marital Harmony" Vibia Sabina (born 85 CE, died 136 or 137 CE) was the daughter of Vibius Sabinus and Matidia, and the niece of Emperor Trajan. From 100 CE, she was the official wife of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Their marriage lasted for 35 years, until Sabina’s death. Due to the emperor’s sexual inclinations, their union remained childless. Posthumously, at Hadrian's request, the Senate recognized her among the gods as Diva Augusta.

The relationship seemed harmonious only on the surface. Hadrian once remarked about his wife: “If I were a private citizen, I would divorce her immediately; she is so stubborn and unpleasant!” Meanwhile, Sabina said of him: “I have proven how great my intelligence is by trying not to become pregnant with him. That would lead to the ruin of humankind!”
