"Templum Iovis Optimi Maximi" This was the most important temple to Jupiter in Italy, located on the Capitoline Hill in Rome, specifically on its northern peak called Capitolium. Construction was initiated by King Tarquinius Priscus, continued by his successor Servius Tullius, and completed by Tarquinius Superbus. It was consecrated on September 13, 509 BCE.

In 83 BCE, as Sulla advanced with his legions toward Rome, he was approached in the town of Silvium by a slave possessed by the spirit of Ma-Bellona, Sulla’s patron deity. The slave prophesied Sulla’s victory but warned him to hurry, as the temple on the Capitoline Hill was destined to burn. The temple indeed caught fire on July 5, 83 BCE, for reasons unknown. Its reconstruction took until 69 BCE to complete.
