Karl Wolfgang (1522-1549) & Louis XV (1522-1557):
Karl Wolfgang & Louis XV were the sons of Wolfgang I (1467-1522), Count of Oettingen-Oettingen, a small county in western Bavaria. They jointly ruled the county after the death of their father.
The elder brother married Elisabeth of Leuchtenberg but remained without heir; Louis XV therefore ruled alone at his death. He married Maria Salome, daughter of Eitel Friedrich II, Count of Hohenzollern (1488-1512).
At his death, Oettingen was divided between his sons Louis XVI (1557-1569), who retained the larger part of Oettingen-Oettingen, and Friedrich VIII (1557-1579) who received Oettingen-Wallerstein.
The two coats of arms represented are that of the House of Oettingen (right) and its crest (left), which features a dog. It was probably put in another shield due to a lack of space; the traditional arrangement is shown below.
