John Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach (1654-1686):
John Frederick had a short life, as he succeeded his father Albert II in 1667 at only 13 years old, and died 19 years later. Frederick William (also named the "Great Elector"), his distant relative of the prestigious house of Hohenzollern, assured the regency until 1672.
His reign was prosperous as he welcomed many French Huguenots, who brought their capital with them. He died of smallpox at only 31.
Five of his children reached adulthood. His three sons were margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach since Christian Albert (1675-1692) and George Frederick II (1678-1703) died young and childless; his third son William Frederick (1686-1723) then took over the margraviate. John Frederick is now mostly remembered for having been the father of Caroline of Ansbach (1683-1737), who in 1705 married George II of Hanover (1683-1760), at that time heir to the Elector of Hanover. However, George inherited the throne of Great-Britain in 1727 and Caroline therefore became Queen. She was one of the most popular queens of England and even her husband refused to remarry after her death.
