The observe bust is very similar to the bust on a solidus in the name of Theodebert I. The lance has a leaf-shaped blade suggesting that both coins were not copied from western issues of the Ostrogoths, but from East Roman solidi. The solidus in the name of Theodebert shows the letters B-O in the reverse field above the exergue. The present coin shows a B at the end of the legend.
The B-O on Theodebert's coins is usually resolved as Bononia, i.e. Bologna. However, Theodebert (and Theuderic) ruled in the eastern Francia near the Rhein. A possibility is that the coins were struck at Bonna, i.e. Bonn in Germany, which is close to Cologne and was likely an important center at the time.
